Doing it yourself means a spot test, light coats, waiting for each one to dry, and keeping everyone off the sofa while it cures. We do all of that in our warehouse.

  2. We spot test, then spray

    Our team tests a hidden spot first, then mists light coats onto clean, dry fabric. Each coat dries before the next one goes on.

  3. It cures before it leaves

    Six to eight hours in our conditioned warehouse. Your piece arrives dry, odorless and ready to sit on.

We use Healthier Homes Fabric Protector, which the maker describes as family-safe and hypoallergenic. These are its published specs.

Full ingredient list: water, plant-based surfactant, acrylic, water softener, omega 9 oleic fatty acid, ethanolamine.

What it does, in the maker’s words: resists stains and dirt, locks in odors, and blocks fumes from upholstery foam and stuffing. It goes on milky white and dries clear and odorless.

It isn’t waterproofing. Blot spills right away instead of rubbing them in.

Questions people ask.

Will it change how my fabric looks or feels?

It goes on as a fine mist and dries clear and smooth, with no visible residue. We use light coats and never soak the fabric, as the maker directs.

Is it safe for my family?

Healthier Homes describes it as family-safe and hypoallergenic: zero VOCs, zero hazardous air pollutants, no PFAS, no formaldehyde and no added fragrance. It cures before your piece leaves us, so there’s nothing to air out at home.

How long does the protection last?

Healthier Homes doesn’t publish a lifespan, so we won’t make one up. If a number matters to your decision, ask us and we’ll put the question to the maker.

Does it make my sofa waterproof?

No. It resists stains and dirt. Blot spills as soon as they happen instead of rubbing them in, and follow the care code on your piece for cleaning.

How do you count pieces?

The way our warehouse does: each piece gets its own treatment. A three-piece sectional is three treatments, so $297.

Can you treat furniture I already have at home?

Not right now. We only treat pieces bought from What’s New, in our warehouse, before they go out for delivery or pickup. That’s how we know it was done right and fully cured.

My piece is wool or leather. What now?

We won’t spray it. The formula isn’t made for wool, and we don’t treat leather. Tell us your fabric before you buy and we’ll check. If it turns out to be wool or leather, we’ll tell you instead of selling you a treatment we can’t apply.

I already ordered. Can I still add it?

Yes, as long as your piece hasn’t left our warehouse. Call the showroom at 503.235.3454 and we’ll add it to your order.
