Frequently Asked Questions

How big should an accent chair be?

Measure the corner or gap where it will sit, then leave about 18 inches between the chair and a coffee table and room to walk around it. Check seat depth as well as width: deep lounge chairs need more floor space than armless occasional chairs, and a swivel needs clearance to turn.

What's the difference between new and consigned accent chairs?

New chairs are covered by the manufacturer's warranty, with terms that vary by brand. Consigned chairs are pre-owned, one-of-a-kind pieces approved and priced by our team, and they offer designer brands and unique styles at a range of price points. Both can be mixed in one room for a collected look.

How do I choose an accent chair fabric?

Performance fabrics and leather wipe clean and suit daily use. Velvet and bouclé add texture but show wear and marks more readily, and tight weaves hold up better with pets. Pick a color that repeats something already in the room.

Measure first. A chair that fits the corner on paper also has to pass through the doorway, so note door widths and turns before you choose.

Accent Chairs by Style

• Mid-century modern: Tapered legs, clean lines, rich fabrics.
• Contemporary: Sculptural shapes, bold textures, statement pieces from New Pacific Direct and LH Home.
• Swivel & recliners: Stanton swivel chairs, made to order in your choice of fabric.
• Vintage & consigned: One-of-a-kind chairs from Portland homes. Check newest arrivals often.

Pair with Any Room

An accent chair works in more rooms than just the living room:

• Living room: Alongside a sofa or sectional, with a coffee table to complete the arrangement
• Bedroom: As a reading nook chair paired with bedroom furniture, beds, or a dresser
• Home office: As guest seating next to an office desk and bookshelf
• Dining room: As a statement host chair at the head of the table alongside dining chairs

Place an accent chair at an angle to the sofa, about 4 to 8 feet away, so conversation stays easy, and repeat a color from the room in the upholstery so it feels intentional.
