This black Sino-Persian rug is the kind of floor piece that changes a room without raising its voice. Woven in the Persian design tradition by Chinese workshops, it keeps a classical layout and a dense, even field, then lets wool and silk do the talking. The black is continuous and deep, with silk threads catching a low sheen where the wool stays matte.
The pile is wool highlighted with silk, about half an inch thick, so the hand is firm and the profile stays low enough for doors and chair legs. At 120 by 96 inches it is a true 10-by-8-foot rug, large enough to sit under a dining table with chairs pulled out or to mark the seating zone of a living room. Condition is good: the weave holds, the black field reads evenly, and ordinary signs of use are part of the piece rather than a reason to pass it by.
Lay it where the black can quiet a busy room. Pair it with walnut or oak, a cognac leather chair, and one saturated pillow or ceramic lamp so the rest of the color stays in the objects, not the floor. It also works in a wide entry if you want guests to land on something with history. Among vintage rugs Portland shoppers actually live with, a large wool-and-silk Sino-Persian in good condition is the practical find.
