Sizes, materials and care

An open, spindled back keeps the Colter from ever looking heavy at a table. Tapered ash spindles rise into a simple frame, each finish paired with its own seat, from a natural flax-linen weave on amber ash to a monochrome fabric on black ash to top-grain leather on a vintage-finished frame. It is a dining chair that stays light on its feet no matter which pairing you pick.

At just over 20 inches wide, it sets close enough for a full table without crowding, and the airy spindle back keeps sightlines open in a room where a solid-back chair would feel closed in. The fixed upholstered seat adds real comfort without thickening the profile.

Styling Tips

Because each finish pairs a specific seat with a specific frame tone, the Colter works well mixed: run Antwerp Natural at the sides and Chaps Saddle leather at the ends for a table that looks collected rather than ordered as a set. Set it around a table from our dining tables collection in a lighter wood so the spindle backs stay legible against the top.

The open back also makes it a good fit for a small dining room, since it never blocks a sightline the way an upholstered wingback would. Keep the rest of the room simple and let the ash frames and leather or fabric seats carry the material contrast on their own.

Care

Vacuum fabric seats with a soft brush attachment and blot spills rather than rubbing. Condition leather seats periodically with a leather-safe cleaner and keep both away from extended direct sunlight. Dust the ash frame dry. Indoor use only.
