The round one. A full copper belly narrows into a slender neck and then opens again into a wide, flat trumpet rim, so the profile keeps changing as you walk past it. Verdigris covers most of the lower body and thins out over the shoulder, which puts the brightest copper right where the neck catches the light. Styling
The narrow neck does the arranging for you — three or five stems, no more, and they will stand where you put them. Dried craspedia, a couple of tulips past their prime, or nothing at all: this is the piece in the set that looks deliberate empty. Set it on a stack of books to lift it, or use it as the low note beside the two thirteen-inch pieces so the group has a real silhouette instead of three things the same height. Care
- Wipe clean with a lint-free, dry cloth
- Indoor use only — sustained rain or sprinkler spray will keep the patina actively growing
- Not sealed for standing water: use a glass or plastic liner, or a florist’s water tube, for fresh stems
- Dry the inside fully after any contact with water
- Skip abrasive pads, metal polish and copper cleaner — all three strip the verdigris that gives the piece its colour
- Every piece is finished by hand, so patina coverage, tone and the exact line where copper turns to green vary from one to the next
