The words are Oliver Hazard Perry's, stitched onto a battle flag in 1813 and flown at Lake Erie, and they have been carried around by people who liked the sentiment ever since. Reproduced here at forty inches wide on an aged, weathered ground, behind glass in a firwood frame, the lettering is heavy and hand-drawn rather than typeset, which is what keeps it from reading as a slogan sign. Styling
Forty inches wide is enough to be the only thing on a wall, and it should be. Hang it over a sofa, a bed or a long console with nothing flanking it and leave the wall around it empty — this is a piece that gets worse the more you put next to it.
Black and white means it sits with anything: leather, oak, painted brick, a saturated wall colour. It is one of the few pieces of typographic art that works in a room with real furniture in it, because the letters are a historical artefact rather than a decorating idea. In an office or a stairwell landing it does a lot of work; over a bar or in a den it does even more. If your item came boxed and you still have the packaging, you've got 7 days from the day you get it to tell us you'd like to try something else. Bring it back to the showroom unused and in its box, and we'll put the full amount on store credit so you can find the right piece. Credit doesn't expire.
Custom orders, consignment, and floor models work differently — those are built to your specs, owned by someone else, or the last one on the floor, so they're final. That said, if you're in a real bind on a custom piece, tell us. Some of our vendors will take one back for a restocking fee, and we're happy to ask on your behalf.
Warranty
Warranty coverage comes from the manufacturer, so terms vary by brand. Several of the makers we carry offer a lifetime warranty on the frame, the springs, and the resiliency of the cushions; others cover a set number of years. Fabric and leather coverage is typically separate from structural coverage.
Whatever your piece carries, you don't have to chase it down. If something arrives damaged or a defect appears later, contact us and our claims department files with the manufacturer on your behalf and sees it through.
