Open rectangles of different sizes, interlocked and overlapped into a loose cluster that runs nearly four feet across, cut from MDF and finished in a warm mid-tone wood. It is a clear descendant of the brutalist metal wall sculptures that hung over every good credenza in 1968, translated into wood and priced for a real house. Because the rectangles are open, the wall colour comes through the piece and it never reads as a solid slab. It hangs either way up. Browse more home decor.
Details
- 44"W x 24"H
- MDF construction with a warm wood finish
- Interlocking open rectangles of varied size and depth
- Hangs vertically or horizontally — the composition works both ways
- Open frames let the wall colour read through the piece
- Mid-century modern silhouette in the brutalist wall-sculpture tradition
- Lighter than the metal originals it references, so it hangs on ordinary anchors
- Indoor use
- By Bloomingville
Styling
Horizontal over a credenza or a low sideboard is the intended shot, and it is the right one — the piece is the same visual weight as a large framed print but it does not close the wall off. Vertical, it works beside a doorway or in a stairwell where the width would not fit.
Hang it against a colour: the open rectangles need something behind them, and a white wall gives them nothing to cut through. Deep green, clay, charcoal or even wallpaper all improve it. The wood finish sits with walnut and teak naturally, and with black metal and cane. Keep the surface below it low and uncluttered — one lamp, one bowl — so the sculpture keeps the eye. More in decor and more, living room furniture and home accents.
Care
- Dust with a dry, soft cloth or a soft brush through the open frames
- Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately — MDF swells if it stays wet
- Do not use solvent or furniture polish on the printed wood finish
- Hang from two points into studs or heavy-duty anchors at this width
- Indoor use only; MDF is not suitable for a covered porch
- Keep out of direct sun to protect the finish colour

Returns & Exchanges
We want you to love what you bought. Not sure it's right? Ask about “If It Fits, It Sits” — take select in-stock pieces home for up to 2 days and live with them before you commit.
If your item came boxed and you still have the packaging, you've got 7 days from the day you get it to tell us you'd like to try something else. Bring it back to the showroom unused and in its box, and we'll put the full amount on store credit so you can find the right piece. Credit doesn't expire.
Custom orders, consignment, and floor models work differently — those are built to your specs, owned by someone else, or the last one on the floor, so they're final. That said, if you're in a real bind on a custom piece, tell us. Some of our vendors will take one back for a restocking fee, and we're happy to ask on your behalf.
Warranty
Warranty coverage comes from the manufacturer, so terms vary by brand. Several of the makers we carry offer a lifetime warranty on the frame, the springs, and the resiliency of the cushions; others cover a set number of years. Fabric and leather coverage is typically separate from structural coverage.
Whatever your piece carries, you don't have to chase it down. If something arrives damaged or a defect appears later, contact us and our claims department files with the manufacturer on your behalf and sees it through.
