Sizes, materials and care

French dining rooms figured out the formula long ago: a cane back for lightness, a cushioned seat for the second course, and a wood frame handsome enough to skip the tablecloth. The Napoleon executes it faithfully — brown-washed oak, a woven cane panel that lets light through, and a textured antique linen seat over high-resiliency foam and sturdy webbing. The tall back does quiet work too, giving the table presence without visual bulk. Set it beside our other upholstered dining chairs and it still stands out.

Styling Tips

Cane backs keep a room airy where solid chairs would wall it in — a real gift around larger dining tables, and they keep sight lines open to a statement wall or garden window beyond. The Napoleon's antique linen plays beautifully with white oak, painted finishes, and aged brass; go full Provence with a linen runner, or contrast the traditional silhouette against a modern table for tension that works. Care:
Vacuum the linen seat with an upholstery attachment and blot spills immediately without rubbing. Dust the cane back gently with a soft brush. Keep out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.
