About the Yugoslavian Mid-Century Extending Slat Bench

Our notes on this piece, including its condition.

This Walnut slat bench is a quiet Yugoslavian mid-century modern find: a long, low seat of evenly spaced wood slats that reads graphic from across the room and warm up close. Made in Yugoslavia, it carries the practical, export-era lines collectors look for : nothing fussy, just a strong silhouette and a finish that has already lived a life.

Built in solid Walnut, the bench measures 54 inches long, 19 inches deep, and 14 inches high, and extends to 72 inches when you need room for extra guests. Condition is fair, with wear and marks from use that show honestly across the slats and frame : scuffs and patina rather than a refinished surface, which suits the piece if you like furniture that already has a story.

Slide it under a dining table for everyday seating, park it in an entry for shoes and bags, or set it at the foot of a bed. Pair it with a linen runner, a stack of art books, or a single bold ceramic. If you are hunting vintage benches Portland, this extending slat bench is the kind of practical treasure that earns its place.
