Shop sofa beds in Portland at What's New Furniture. Our sofa bed collection features compact, fold-flat designs, perfect for studios, home offices, and guest rooms where a full pull-out sleeper sofa won't fit. Browse click-clack futons, convertible couches, and space-saving sofa beds.
Convertible Sofas & Couches
A convertible sofa transforms from couch to bed using the frame itself: the back folds flat or the seat slides forward, with no hidden steel mechanism and no separate mattress to store. That makes a convertible couch lighter and easier to move up apartment stairs than a true sleeper. The trade-off: you sleep on the seating cushions, so look for high-density foam if it will be used more than a few nights a month.
Fold-Out Couches & Click-Clack Futons
A fold-out couch in this collection uses a click-clack or drop-back hinge: lift slightly and lower the back flat to create a sleep surface in seconds. Modern click-clack designs look like proper sofas, with track arms, tapered legs, and tailored upholstery, nothing like the dorm-room futons you remember. Some include hidden storage under the seat for bedding.
Compact Sofa Beds for Studios & Small Spaces
Living in a studio or ADU? Sofa beds shine where every inch counts. Check each listing's dimensions against your doorways, and apartment-sized frames keep footprints compact. If your space is even tighter, a murphy cabinet bed folds a mattress into a cabinet.
Sofa Beds vs. Sleeper Sofas
Sofa beds fold flat using the sofa frame itself, with no hidden pull-out mechanism and no separate mattress. They're lighter and fit in tighter spaces. Sleeper sofas (also called a sofa with a pull-out bed) hide a fold-out metal frame with a real mattress inside. If you need a more comfortable sleep surface for frequent guests, browse our sleeper sofa collection or consider a Luonto sleeper.
Custom Sofa Beds
Looking for a custom sofa bed in a specific fabric or size? Stanton and Rowe offer custom configurations with sleeper mechanisms. Choose your fabric, and expect a build time that typically runs 4 to 14 weeks depending on the maker. Browse our custom sofa program to get started.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are sofa beds comfortable enough for nightly use? Click-clack designs suit occasional guests best. For nightly sleeping, a true sleeper with a premium mattress (Luonto or American Leather) or a cabinet bed is the better tool.
How do I check a fold mechanism? Fold and unfold it a few times, check that the cushions or mattress sit flat when open, and measure the open length against your room.
How much room does a sofa bed need when open? Measure the sofa's depth and add the fold-out length, then check the open footprint against your walls, doors, and coffee table.
