Stanton vs. Rowe: Which Custom Sofa Should You Order?

Start with Stanton: made in Oregon, built in about 4 to 6 weeks, and $970 less than a same-size Rowe Concord. Choose Rowe for 1,000+ fabrics. What’s New Furniture sells both at its Portland and Cedar Mill showrooms.

Is Stanton cheaper than Rowe?

Yes. At What’s New Furniture, an 87-inch Stanton Nirvana costs $970 less than an 86-inch Rowe Concord, each at its maker’s entry fabric grade. In our online builder, Stanton sofas start at $1,365, for the Legacy loft sofa.

Is Stanton furniture good quality?

We think so. Stanton describes a “heavy-duty modular frame design” with “2x4 support rails and corner blocks.” It says its seat springs are “8.5-gauge sinuous steel,” and it makes its cushions in house from “pre-compressed, High-Density/High-Resiliency foam.”

Which has more fabrics?

Rowe says most of its pieces “can be tailored in 1,000+ fabrics,” with performance options such as Crypton, Sunbrella and Revolution. Stanton’s line has 248 body fabrics, and our online builder offers 167 of them: 69 Standard, 76 Premium and 22 Performance.

Feel them before you choose. Our Portland store has the fabric wall and Stanton’s sample books, and Cedar Mill has a fabric library. Shopping Rowe? Call Portland or Cedar Mill and we’ll tell you which Rowe fabrics each store has.

How do the warranties compare?

Both cover the frame and springs with a lifetime limited warranty, and both are for the original buyer.

Cushions are where they part. Stanton warrants foam resiliency for as long as you own the sofa, and counts a cushion as failed when its core loses more than 1 inch of height. Normal softening is not a defect. Rowe’s warranty page lists 3 years for its Cloud cushion and 7 years for the other cushions it names.

Have pets? Stanton’s fabric warranty excludes pet use and heavy soiling, so choose a fabric you can clean. Each one’s cleaning code is on our Stanton fabrics page. Our guide to pet-friendly sofa fabrics goes deeper.

How do I order, and how long does it take?

A Stanton from What’s New Furniture takes about 4 to 6 weeks to build, counted from the day you order. We confirm your date for either maker when you order, and we contact you to schedule delivery when your sofa is ready.

  • Stanton: design it in our online builder and pay at checkout with Shop Pay or Affirm, or order in either showroom.
  • Rowe: order through our product pages, in either showroom or by phone.

Custom pieces are final sale under our refund policy, so settle the fabric and size first. If something arrives damaged, or a defect shows up later, contact us rather than the maker; our claims department files the claim and follows it through. Sizes, delivery and the rest of the process are in our custom sofa guide.
